COLUMBIA, SC — Today, Dr. Annie Andrews demanded accountability from interim Senator Darline Graham over the record-breaking outside spending backing her campaign, calling on Graham to publicly reject the nearly $5 million in support from AI and data center-aligned super PACs, including millions from a newly formed group that has not disclosed its donors.

“I have a message for ‘Data Center Darline’: South Carolina families deserve a tax break — not your data center friends or Big Tech,” said Dr. Annie Andrews. “Nearly $5 million from the AI and data center industry is being spent to keep you in Washington. Will you publicly reject their support and demand they stop spending on your behalf?”

The demand follows new reporting from The New York Times revealing that the data center industry has made electing Darline Graham to a full term in the U.S. Senate “its first goal.” A pro-data center super PAC formed just this month, Building the Future, has already spent more than $2.2 million backing Graham — its first candidate — without disclosing a single donor or even mentioning data centers in its ads.

But this is just the tip of the iceberg:

According to Federal Election Commission filings, Graham has benefited from more than $27 million in outside super PAC spending, including $4.9 million from the AI data center industry.

That $4.9 million includes $2.7 million from American Mission – a group funded by Silicon Valley billionaires and OpenAI leadership that pushes AI and data center development with no restrictions at all.

American Mission has spent TWICE AS MUCH supporting Darline Graham than it has any other candidate, in any race across the country.

Darline Graham has also received support from super PACs funded by big pharma, cost-hiking utility companies, private equity interests, and the insurance industry.

This money comes after Graham backed legislation giving $70 billion in tax breaks to data centers, posted unusual pro-AI content on social media, and repeatedly voiced her support for the industry, declaring, “we have to have data centers” and “we need to build data centers here.”

“Just weeks ago, Graham was in Spartanburg. But instead of visiting the massive data center site or hearing directly from her constituents, she dined with donors at the exclusive Piedmont Club,” said Dr. Andrews.

Andrews has visited a nearly $3 billion data center project site in Spartanburg, met with residents in Aiken concerned about rising power bills, and stood alongside residents in Walterboro, where she launched DataCenterDarline.com and called for greater local control over data center developments and a two-year moratorium.

“I’m running because this seat doesn’t belong to Washington insiders, California’s Silicon Valley billionaires, or the special interests spending millions to buy an election. It belongs to the people of South Carolina. And on November 3rd, we have a chance to send a message: Our Senate seat is not for sale,” Dr. Andrews concluded.
