The next U.S. Senator from South Carolina
Our race has officially been called, and I am so proud to announce that I will be your next U.S. Senator from South Carolina.
Before I say anything else, I want to say thank you.
My name may have been on the ballot, but this victory doesn’t belong to me – it belongs to all of you.
Because tonight, we have sent a clear message: This Senate seat doesn’t belong to one family, one party, or Washington.
You have shown the nation — that in an era of partisan divides, of vitriol and namecalling, in a politics dominated by billionaires, special interests, and insiders in Washington – that we will not bow down. We will not back down. And we will chart our own course.
When I first jumped into this race over a year and a half ago, I had no idea what this movement would become. I was a pediatrician and mom of 3 who was sick and tired of watching failed leadership impact my patients, my own kids, and my community.
So I stepped up to do something about it and decided to run for Senate.
And tonight, we’ve made history as the first Democrat elected to the Senate in South Carolina in over two decades.
But that history wasn’t made by me alone. It was made by you.
It was made by the volunteers who knocked doors in all 46 counties. By the grassroots donors who chipped in $5 and $10 at a time while the experts said we could never compete. By every person who showed up to a town hall, talked to a neighbor, or believed that we could win in South Carolina.
You proved that a people-powered campaign with no corporate PAC money can win in South Carolina.
I’m going to Washington with the same promise I made at the start: to show up, to listen, and to fight every single day for lower costs, affordable health care, and a future our kids deserve.
With so much gratitude,
Dr. Annie Andrews
Senator-elect, South Carolina
