WACH ABC NEWS 4: ANNIE ANDREWS CALLS OUT SEN. DARLINE GRAHAM OVER DARK MONEY TIED TO DATA CENTERS
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WACH) — As data center projects spark debate across South Carolina over tax breaks, infrastructure and community impact, U.S. Senate candidate Dr. Annie Andrews is accusing Sen. Darline Graham of benefiting from what Andrews calls record-breaking “dark money” tied to the data center industry.
On Tuesday, Andrews accused a pro-data center super PAC of putting another $1.5 million into ads supporting Graham. Andrews said data center-related PACs have now spent nearly $5 million backing Graham.
Andrews said the money is coming from a super PAC called Building the Future, which she said has not disclosed its funding sources. “Darline Graham has repeatedly said we have to have data centers and we need to build data centers here. She said we need to get with the program,” Andrews said.
Andrews also pointed to broader outside spending in the race. “And that’s just the tip of the iceberg. More than 27 million dollars. Thats how much outside super pacs have spent backing darline Graham,” she said.
Andrews said the spending raises questions about who is trying to influence the race as data centers become a growing flashpoint in South Carolina.
