WJCL 22: DR. ANNIE ANDREWS RALLIES ST. HELENA ISLAND VOTERS AS SOUTH CAROLINA SENATE RACE HEATS UP
BEAUFORT COUNTY, S.C. — Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Dr. Annie Andrews held a get-out-the-vote rally in St. Helena, South Carolina, urging voters to head to the polls and emphasizing her grassroots appeal as Election Day approaches.
“South Carolinians are ready to move forward, they’re ready to send someone to the U.S. Senate who’s going to wake up every day and put South Carolina first, work to lower costs, fix our broken health care system, and root out the corruption in Washington D.C.,” Andrews said.
Andrews faces Republican incumbent Sen. Darline Graham, the sister of the late Sen. Lindsey Graham, in next Tuesday’s election. President Donald Trump is scheduled to campaign with Graham for the third time on Thursday.
When asked whether any national figures would campaign on her behalf, Andrews said, “We’re bringing this message home to South Carolina over these next eight days. It’s not about national politicians, and that’s what we’re going to focus on over the next eight days.”
Andrews also received endorsements from two former South Carolina governors, Jim Hodges and David Beasley.
“I’m not a career politician. I come at this as a mom and a pediatrician, and I want to go to Washington D.C., roll up my sleeves, and solve problems,” Andrews said.
